The peak of Mount Everest is 8,848 meters (29,029 ft) above sea level and is one of the worlds most breathtaking regions. Climbing Everest however takes many thousands of pounds in permits, training, equipment, insurance and traveling expenses. There's a great article here, about the cost of an Everest climb.

So would it not make more sense to give all the money to charity rather than spend it on climbing the greatest peak? and this is where the idea for a UK based Everest Charity Challenge was born. Starting out in mid August'09, the plan is to cover some of the UK's most rugged peaks, in a mad dash of blisters and energetic fundraising.

The event is quite simple; we will run, crawl and limp our way towards securing as much money for charity as we can. Ascending beyond the height of Everest. Where possible we will be camping on location, with much of the equipment we require carried on our backs.

"The reason we are here, the reason we run in the rain, hike in the ice and stay awake ‘til the wee hours emailing and writing to people, is our beneficiary charities. Our charities were all selected for personal reasons; it is why when we feel like slowing down, with the sun setting on another cold winter’s eve. You forget about the pain, my icy cold fingers and Darren’s wet feet and push on" Bryn Posey

Hilly are proud to offer support in the form of free kit to Darren and Bryn in what we firmly believe is a great cause. Judging by the reports on training so far we are certain our socks and products will now provide the support Darren and Bryn's feet badly need!
